Trail Endurance Western Fjord Draft Cross Mare

Bets is a coming 4yr old red dun Fjord Draft Cross mare standing at 15.1 hands tall and very stout. Her dad is a registered Fjord and her mom was a Percheron cross. And we purchased Bets straight from the breeder so there are no unknowns with her. You get her full story.

Bets really takes after the Fjord side and is a good example of the breed. She is stout and strong, but NOT klutzy or lazy. She is NOT a hot horse of course she’s more whoa than go, but she can move out when asked and she’s agile. So, she’s not a typical draft type of horse that’s lazy or klutzy. When I ride her, I feel like I’m riding a nice heavy duty four-wheeler. That’s the best way I can think to put it.

She is a veritable trail MACHINE! She will go ANYWHERE I point her. She has NO fear of water whatsoever. In the video you’ll see her go in the river. What you don’t know is the first time I took her in the river she was ready to go swim across it. But being its winter, I didn’t want to go for a swim.

So anyways she loves the water she will go trotting right in it. She’s ready to swim a river for you anytime. She is like a fish in the water. She’ll also cross huge logs, and little wooden bridges.

She’ll hop right up the steep banks and pick her way down a steep hill carefully. She is a regular powerhouse. She is drafty, but fun. I personally can’t stand a lazy/klutzy draft. So, she is so much more fun because she has the power of a draft, but the agility of a quarter horse. And she’s stout without being overly tall to get on so she can carry a heavier rider and it’s a lot easier to mount from the ground.

She has a very nice canter and a smooth trot. She has this little jog trot she’ll do that is easy to sit to. She will leave home alone just fine. She can lead or follow out on the trail and will separate from the other horse. She stands stock still for mounting, she loads right in and backs right out of a trailer, and good for getting her feet trimmed. She is middle of the pecking order. And an easy keeper.

She knows how to move her shoulders and hindquarters off the leg. And she also will neck or direct rein. She’s good with traffic coming from in front or behind her. I could easily see her becoming a beginner type horse in a year if someone keeps her going the right way. She’s a smart horse with a willing attitude and remembers everything you teach her you don’t have to show her multiple times
