✨ Meet Maximus! (Aka Max) ✨
This big, beautiful boy is a 4-year-old, 16.2hh Spotted Draft/Paint cross gelding. This gentle giant is sweet as pie and has all the personality in the world! He rides both English and Western and drives like the best of the best. He’s suitable for all levels of riders and was simply born with a quiet brain. He’s well put together, safe in every way, and was brought up right—with a respectful, fun, and curious personality.
Maximus is truly what people search for. On the trail, he will lead or follow, and he’s as bombproof as a horse can be! We’ve ridden him into town with semi-trucks flying by (literally right next to him—watch the video!), and this perfect boy didn’t blink an eye. He’s steady, sturdy, reliable, and guaranteed to be the same horse every time you pull him out. He’s been exposed to hikers, dogs, loud equipment, mini bikes, donkeys, flags, smoke—and he’s even ridden through fire! We don’t often call a horse bombproof, but he truly is.
He’s quiet, safe, and has a heart of gold. We’ve taken him to the river for a swim—he was the first to dive in and had so much fun! He’s gone over wooden bridges, through covered bridges, and down the highway. He has a fun-loving personality and wants to be everyone’s best friend. He loves to please, loves going on adventures, and simply loves people. He will literally put his head in your arms for a hug.
In the ring, Max keeps that same steady confidence. You’d never guess he’s just four years old based on his unwavering poise. He rides both English and Western. He’ll tote around beginners on a loose rein or step it up and do fancy work with more advanced riders. He has a solid walk, trot, and canter in both directions, with smooth transitions that are easy to ride.
His movement is floaty and lovely—he’s easy to sit, with a rocking horse canter. He naturally carries himself well and uses his body correctly. He responds well to voice cues and will stop on a dime with just a “whoa” or a simple shift in your seat. He’s moving off the leg beautifully and knows how to leg yield, spin, and move his haunches.
He’s also been started very lightly over jumps, both in the arena and cross-country, and he’s a natural—with cute form! You wouldn’t expect a horse his size to be so athletic, but this boy has real talent. He’s smart as a whip and eager to learn. Max is the kind you could take in any direction—and he’ll shine.
Under harness, Max is your go-to for a leisurely drive. He’s broke, broke, broke and completely unflappable. He’s 100% traffic-safe and knows how to handle himself in the shafts. Max has been driven single and double, and hitched to various types of farm equipment. He’s as safe as they come and will take the carriage right down the highway into town.
He doesn’t mind leaving the barn, has a great work ethic, and always has those happy ears forward. He stands quietly to hitch and unhitch, and is basically dummy-proof. If you want a well-broke, trustworthy horse to drive—look no further.
In the barn, Max is a favorite. It’s hard not to love him with his puppy-dog, stuffed-animal demeanor and cuddly personality. He loves attention and will stand for hours in the cross-ties to be groomed, bathed, tacked up, or braided. Like many horses, feed time is his favorite, and he’ll greet you with a loving nicker when he sees you coming.
The kids can lead him, groom him, and handle him in every way. He’s sweet, gentle, and careful with them. He goes out in the pasture with both geldings and mares, gets along with everyone (and is quite the ladies’ man). You can throw kids on his back while he’s on the cross-ties or give pony rides—he’ll love every second and be sure to take care of them. Max loads and unloads from the trailer with no hesitation and is quiet as a mouse to haul.
